Our jewelry incorporates wonderful gemstones in precious and semi-precious varieties. Gemstones have been used for a variety of cultural and decorative purposes for 1000's of years and are especially prevalent in Chinese and East Indian cultures.
The following general gemstone information is compiled by our jewelry designer Kristina Gustavson. However, many people do believe in deriving powers from gemstones and are curious about the ancient wisdom and still-modern beliefs associated with them.
Origin: Agate derives its name from the Greek word “happy”.
Color: Agate comes in most colors, ranging from transparent to opaque.
Varieties: There are several types of agate to mention a few: Blue, Blue Lace, Crazy Lace, Green, Indian, Moss, Tree and Wood. The Moss agate or mocha stone contains visible impurities in the form that resemble moss. Indian agates have mixed earthy tones. The red-brown agates are the most powerful protection stones.
Birthstone: Agate is the birthstone of Taurus: April 20 - May 20.
Meaning: This is a stone which everyone should wear as protection. Agate shields you against any negative energy and danger. Wearers become more aware and observant. It helps the person view oneself with more clarity and see the world through a broader viewpoint. Agate brings stability to your life.
Healing ability: Agate insures good health and a long and prosperous life.
Agate is a cooling stone, it is believed to reduce heat, fever, quenches thirst, beneficial in stomach area. It quiets the pulse and heart palpation. Wearing Agate is believed to cure insomnia and to insure pleasant dreams.
Color: Amazonite varies in color from yellow-green to blue-green and may also exhibit fine white streaks. It can have very beautiful various blue, brown and orange earthy shades in one stone.
Meaning: Amazonite makes your love-life happier, especially in relationships and marriage. It enhances creative expressions. Improves confidence and self-respect.
Healing ability: Amazonite helps in skin problems. It is also said to release fear and anxiety.
Color: From pale mauve to medium purple to medium dark in tone, vivid in intensity. Sometimes even reddish-brownish purple. In the purest form it is colorless.
Birthstone: Amethyst is the birthstone of Aquarius: Jan. 20 - Feb. 18
Meaning: Purple is a deep, passionate color; people who desire purple colors are individuals who like to make a personal statement, and express their unique taste. Amethyst is given as a symbol of sincerity, security, and peace of mind. It provokes honesty. Placed under the pillow at night, the beautiful amethyst is believed to produce a calm and peaceful sleep.
Healing ability: Amethyst increases psychic abilities and right-brain activity. It strengthens immunity, while energizing and purifying the blood. Amethyst is said to relieve headaches; may also balance blood sugar. Aids in meditation to find inner peace.
Color: Aventurine is most often a soft green semi-translucent to mostly opaque stone Aventurine also comes in silver, yellow, reddish-brown, greenish-brown, bluish-green midnight blue and orange.
Meaning: Aventurine is a Good Luck Stone, it has many of the same properties as jade, even the color closely resembles jade. It said to increase confidence, and gratitude, promotes emotional tranquility and positive attitudes. Aventurine is a wonderful stone to use daily, especially during meditation and prayer.
Healing ability: Aventurine is said to increase libido. Releases fear and anxiety. Green aventurine strengthens one's blood and muscle tissues and enhances regeneration. It alleviates pain.
Color: Carnelian is a red-brown stone said to have most powerful protective powers.
Meaning: Carnelian has a long and storied past, and was once considered strictly the property of the noble class. People holding a high social status were often buried with this gemstone. Carnelian protects from all bad vibrations, even guards against poverty. It is said to increase energy and increase sense of humor.
Healing ability: It calms the temper, gives more pep and stamina by increasing energy flow. Helps insecure persons to find inner strength. It is also said to increase appetite.
Color: Chalcedony can be virtually any color of the rainbow. It is commonly pale blue, yellow, brown or gray with soft luster or mixed with white, buff, and light tan.
Meaning: Chalcedony prevents from touchiness and melancholy. Worn by many to promote calm and peace. Chalcedony also stimulates creativity.
Healing ability: This beautiful stone is believed to banish fear, hysteria, depression, mental illness and sadness. Chalcedony reduces fever. Wearing chalcedony is believed to be excellent for eyes.
Color: Coral comes in a variety of colors: in red, rose, orange, blue, white and black. Coral is the skeletal material of calcium carbonate, built up by small animals that live in colonies in the sea. Coral is mostly calcium carbonate. Coral is usually branchlike.
Meaning: Coral is a youthful energy stone. It is said to protect children and it is given as a gift to children in many countries. Coral is said to cure madness and give wisdom. Coral is used to build a person emotionally stronger. Coral aids in the safe crossing of rivers, passages through tempests. Note that coral loses its powers when broken.
Healing ability: Coral increases positive energy, excites nerve power, brilliancy and gladness and is a true health-giver. Coral is used in difficulties of the lungs and digestion. It relates to the circulation of the blood and to the heart. Coral helps restore harmony in the event of emotional conflict. It works against nutritional deficiencies, depression and lethargy.
Color: Color is mainly clear cut with a wonderful reflecting spectrum of light. Crystal also comes in many colors.
Meaning: Crystal amplifies the meaning of other stones when worn together. Crystal supplies strength and energy, clarity of mind and improves perception and understanding. Quartz Crystal is a common stone, but a very powerful one. It is said not to work for a negative person.
Healing ability: Crystal gives powerful energy to assist and balance any other stones for healing. Helps clarifying the mind in mental conditions.
Color: Most often red brown, sometimes even midnight blue, with hundreds of small glittery mica (crystal) flecks reflecting light. Color of flecks can vary from gold to silvery. Gold-stone is sometimes referred as sandstone.
Meaning: Gold-stone is a gentle, uplifting energy stone. It makes a person daydream of wanting and deserving beautiful things in life and celebrating being alive. It stores energy for those who touch it. It also has protective qualities to defy negative energy.
Healing ability: It is said to reduce pent-up tension, anxiety and fear. Healers use it for long-distance healing.
Color: Hematite is a silvery, shiny dark gray stone that almost looks like metal. Hematite is heavy and relatively hard oxide mineral, that constitutes the most important iron ore because of its high iron content (70 percent).
Meaning: Hematite is a healing stone, said to be good for all kinds of aches such as headaches and arthritis pain. A grounding stone, it strengthens the body and improve resistance to stress. Hematite inspires inner life and helps to keep inward peace.
Healing ability: Magnetized hematite is the strongest against pains and aches.
Color: From soft gray green to vibrant grass green. Also comes in multitude of other colors.
Meaning: Since ancient times jade is known to attract money, good luck and prosperity. It protects from accidents and misfortune. Helps to attract love. No wonder the Chinese regard this powerful stone very highly! It also said to help one to get rid of negative thoughts and energy. To attract wealth, hold jade in your power hand and visualize yourself using money wisely, productively and creatively. Also hold it in your hand when contemplating important business decisions.
Healing ability: Assists in self-healing. Jade is a cleansing, strongly protective stone. Beneficial to heart. A wonderful healing stone, especially for kidney, heart and stomach troubles.
Color: Jasper is a multicolored stone, chiefly brick red to brownish red, or yellowish and gray tones in spots or various squiggles.
Meaning: Jasper brings joy into life. Spotted or leopard jasper is said to grant wishes to the wearer (but only if it is what they need). Jasper is thought to drive away evil spirits and protect against snake and spider bites.
Healing ability: Medicinal values were long attributed to jasper, including a belief that wearing it strengthened the stomach. Jasper was also believed to cure gynecological problems. Opalite jasper is said to help one sleep.
Color: Lapis Lazuli occurs in various shades of Indigo and cobalt blue speckled or streaked with white calcite.
Meaning: Traditionally believed to increase mental clarity, virility, and calm. Lapis Lazuli is energy focuser for teachers, lecturers and speakers. Enhances creative self-expression. It is believed to be useful in relieving depression and promoting spirituality. Lapis Lazuli is also powerful during meditation.
Healing ability: The stone is said to increase psychic abilities. Lapis is said to be a cure for melancholy and for certain types of fever. Lapis lazuli eliminates negative emotions. It relieves sore throat pain.
Color: Malachite is a streaked stone, the colors ranging from a very light green to deep forest green with irregular black bands. Azure Malachite has dark turquoise tones mixed with green. It will reflect the colours you wear and it also reflects light looking magical.
Meaning: Malachite is a harmony stone. It is worn by many to detect impending danger. It is also believed to increase extra energy. Malachite is said to bring harmony into one's life, gives knowledge and patience. Malachite is used as a children's talisman to ward off danger and illness. In some countries it is attached to infant's cradles.
Healing ability: Malachite is said to aid in the regeneration of body cells, creates calm and peace, and aids one's sleep. . It is believed that gazing at Malachite or holding it relaxes the nervous system and calms stormy emotions.
Color: Opaque moonstones come in a variety of colors, ranging from clear colorless to white, gray, brown, yellow, orange, green, or pink. Clarity ranges from transparent to translucent. It will reflect the colours you wear and it also reflects light looking magical.
Birthstone: Moonstone is a birthstone of Gemini: May 21 - June 21.
Meaning: Magical and spiritual Moonstone is believed to be protective for women and babies. It's also associated with the sea and planting cycles. Moonstone is said to balance yin and yang. In India, moonstone is regarded as a sacred and spiritual stone. It is believed to bring tender happiness to one’s life.
Healing ability: Moonstone aligns vertebrae. It is good digestive aid. Moonstone also soothes and balances the emotions.
Color: The beautiful luminescence of Mother of Pearl has made it a most popular choice for jewelry for centuries. The color may vary from pearly white to various pinks and even deep jewel tones. This iridescent substance is not a gemstone but rather is formed in the lining of the shells fresh-water or salt-water mollusks.
Meaning: Mother of pearl has a special symbolism in China, where it is highly prized as a stone that attracts fortune and happiness to anyone who owns it. It is considered a good luck amulet as well, and is often given to loved ones to wish them good luck and prosperity in life. It increases harmony in relationships.
Healing ability: Mother-Of-Pearl represents the tides of emotion, increases an easy flow of feelings and sensitivities to others, connected to family and particularly motherhood. It is a feminine gem.
Color: The most common colour is shiny jet black. However, onyx can vary in stripes of translucent to opaque for sardonyx. The stripes may be in many earthy colors white or gray, brown, orange, burnt umbra.
Meaning: Onyx eliminates negative thinking, it is also believed to sharpen the wits of the wearer. Onyx is said to bring spiritual inspiration. It is a great assistance in holding emotions and passions under control, helping to change bad habits.
Healing ability: Onyx is used as a heart, kidney, nerve, capillary, hair, eye and nail strengthener. Onyx is said to help one sleep. This gemstone helps to eliminate apathy, stress and neurological disorders.
Color: The color of pearls varies with the mollusk and its environment. It ranges from black to white, with the rose of Indian pearls esteemed most. Other colors are cream, gray, blue, yellow, lavender, green, and mauve. All occur in delicate shades.
Varieties: Jewelers commonly refer to saltwater pearls as Oriental Pearls and to those produced by freshwater mollusks as Freshwater Pearls. Any cultured pearl is a natural pearl produced by a mollusk after the intentional introduction of a foreign object inside the creature's shell. Cultured pearls come in virtually every color of the rainbow. The most common pearls are the cultured Freshwater Pearls which are formed by a mollusk in various seashells. A pearl consists of the same material (called nacre, or Mother-Of-Pearl) as the shell. Pearl is a highly valued gemstone.
Pearls are characterized by their translucence and luster and by a delicate play of surface color called orient. Pearls come in a wide range of sizes and shapes.

Meaning: Everyone seems to love the beauty of a strand of pearls. It is a classic piece of jewelry equated with harmony and class Pearl is said to help one see themselves and help improve self-worth. As an emblem of modesty, chastity and purity, the pearl symbolizes love, success, and happiness. In many countries pearls are given as a wedding, engagement or anniversary gift as a symbol of happy marriage.

Color: Luminous stone from delicate blush pink to deep rose pink.
Meaning: Rose quartz is known as the love stone. It encourages the ability to love. It is a strong healer of the heart. It makes an excellent friendship gift. It is said to increase intimate love life when placed under the pillow. Rose quartz brings peace and harmony.
Healing ability: Healers regard rose quartz highly. Rose quartz is used for heart related problems. Also used to increase fertility.
Color: Tiger’s eye (or Tiger Eye) has various yellow and golden stripes mixed with brown, with a fine golden luster when polished, resembling tiger’s eye, hence the name.
Meaning: Tiger’s Eye is a brain power and concentration stone. It is said that Tiger Eye offers protection during travel, strengthens convictions and confidence. Roman soldiers wore tiger's-eye for protection in battle.
Healing ability: Tiger’s Eye is said to relieve high blood pressure. It is recommended to wear this stone for following diseases: bronchial asthma; kidney problems, rheumatic heart disease, ear infections, psoriasis.
Color: The color of turquoise ranges from sky blue through various shades of greenish blue to watery green, even yellowish. It may have veins of gold, brown or black. Spider turquoise has thin black spidery veins crisscrossing the bumpy rounded irregular shaped stone.
Birthstone: Turquoise is birthstone of Sagittarius (Archer): Nov. 22-Dec. 21.
Meaning: Given as a gift, Turquoise is believed by many to bestow wealth and happiness upon its receiver. In the 13th century, turquoise was thought to protect the wearer from falling, especially from horses. It is a positive power stone, believed to bring happiness and good fortune to all. A protective stone, turquoise is worn to guard against violence and accidents, being a valuable amulet for travelers. Wear turquoise when starting new projects.
